Vettii House in Pompeii opened again
One of the most important houses of Pompeii is the Vettii House. It has been closed for more than 15 years, before opening again on 23th of December 2016.

The supervisor of Pompeii is doing a good job. A lot of new houses, which have been closed for a long time, are opening again. I talk about the Vettii House, the House of the Ephebe, the House of Obellio Firmo, the House of the Geometrical Mosaics, the Praedia of Julia Felix, just to mention the most famous ones. We can say that in Pompeii there is a clime of enthusiasm and a lot of new projects. The old Antiquarium with a description of the life of the city has been reopened too.
My personal experience of the Vettii House
When I started working as a tourist guide the Vettii House was still closed. To be honest, the last time I had seen the house was when I was a child. That’s why I was really excited when I gave the first explanation of the house as a guide. The inauguration of the Vettii House in December has been one of the most important events in the history of Pompeii.

You have to know that only the first area of the Vettii House has been opened. The house is named after the family name of two brothers, who were two free slaves who were able to reach the highest political charges of that time. On the entrance there is the fresco of Priapus, the god of sex, according to the other erotic frescoes inside. It’s very interesting to see how was an ancient original Roman safe of a rich family placed in the main room and a religious chapel too in one more room. Finally, you should pay attention to the frescoes in the cubicula and the triclinium of this house: Theseus and Arianna, Pan and Cupid, the Torture of Ixion.
That’s why the Vettii House is the jewel of Pompeii, the best place to end your tour to better appreciate the ruins after a stunning tour.
