Only the 2/3 of the archaeological area of Pompeii have been excavated in almost 300 years, since 1748, the year of the beginning of the excavations of the ancient Roman city, ‘till now.

In the last years, since few years ago, the excavations of Pompeii are moving forward in the Region V, which is extended in the north-east area of the ruins.

The excavations of this area of Pompeii are moving forward quickly and efficiently thanks to the hard job done by the last supervisor of Pompeii, the capable Massimo Osanna, who improved the excavations activity and and the amount of tourists visiting the ruins, after a difficult period starting in the 2010, when Gladiator Barracks collapsed.

Important remains have been found, like the wonderful fraesco of Leda and the swan, on the north side of Stabiana street.

The last wonderful place which has been found in the Regio is a very beautiful Thermopolium, which was an ancient “fast food” of the Roman times, one of many found in Pompeii. Anyway this is one of the most elegant thermopolia. In fact the food sales counter is decorated with a fraesco of a Neired, with a “cave canem” (a chained dog, that you can find on many houses entrances of Pompeii) and representations of other animals. Remains of human and animal bones have been found too. Moreover on the counter there is a graffiti where bad words are written: “Nicea cinaede cacator”, meaning “Nicia inverted cacator”. Pompeii is folklore, a place where you can read graffiti that you can find in the slums too.
